The Core Course is designed to facilitate cross-disciplinary research communication, and to prepare the students for a research world with eroding boundaries between research fields. The students will learn how to talk, present and write about their research in a manner appropriate for a broad audience. Conversely, students will be taught how to understand how to talk about issues in research areas that may not be directly related to their own interests. These communication skills will be reinforced by the integration of the experience at the first rotation project participating in a collaborative project and relating the research experience of the project to the other students. At the end of the course, students should be comfortable explaining and writing about their research in a manner understandable to non-specialist scientists and have the necessary skills to engage in a discussion with a researcher outside their field of expertise
