This course covers extensive fields of neuroscience, from molecular, genetic, cellular, circuit, systems, behavioral, evolutionary and computational neuroscience. It contains fundamental concepts and basic knowledge, suitable for students with little background in neuroscience, but also useful for those with neuroscience background through master programs. The structure of the course follows well-known textbook “Principles of Neurobiology” by Liqun Luo. Understanding of the contents in this course is prerequisite for the mandatory “Neuroscience Track Core” course in Spring 2021, thus all students who may wish to be affiliated to neuroscience groups should register in this course. However, if students are confident about their understanding of these contents, they can consult Neuroscience Track Representative (Ryuichi Shigemoto) to seek for a partial participation. All the other students should attend at least 80% of the lectures (more than 19 lectures). In the recitation, students may ask any questions in the topic presented in the week and discuss further with lecturers or teaching assistants. All lectures and recitation will be given online using Zoom, but some recitation could be planned in person in a seminar room on 2F Lab Building East.

Target group: The course is primarily for students who are interested in taking neuroscience track core course and wish to be affiliated to neuroscience groups, but students in other tracks without neuroscience background are also welcome.

Prerequisites: No background knowledge in neuroscience.

Evaluation: - Active participation of the student in each lecture/recitation (40%).
